Private Ernest Holroyd

 

The background of this man is not known at present.

Ernest Holroyd enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Belfast on 5 May 1917 (regimental number between 2444 and 2447 – Corps of Hussars No.71832). He was described as being 5' 5¼" tall, with a pale compexion and dark hair. He stated that he was born in Selkirk, Stirling, Scotland, was aged 27 or 28, and worked as a farmer.

He trained at the regiment's reserve base at Antrim, but was reported to have deserted on 19 January 1918. Whether he subsequently returned to duty is not known at present.
